Description
42 High Street in East Linton is an 18th-century cottage that has undergone later alterations. It is a two-storey building with headroom in the roof space, featuring three bays and an adjoining single-storey workshop that has been significantly altered. The structure is built of whinstone rubble with renewed sandstone dressings.
On the west elevation, there is a central doorway flanked by windows. The workshop has double doors and a timber gabled dormer above. The east elevation also features a central doorway, with windows in each bay on the ground floor, and a bipartite window to the right. There is a window on the first floor of the west gable end, while the east gable is made of rubble and has two irregular openings. The building predominantly has sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern.
The roof is covered with red pantiles, which have been renewed, and includes a skylight for the cottage. The stacks, skews, and flashings have also been renewed.
