Description
The Westfield Footbridge, built in 1912, is an unusual footbridge that spans the River Tyne and is made entirely of reinforced concrete. The bridge features a level span raised between two stepped platforms, with squared, round-topped end piers and projecting moulded concrete coping. The outer facings are adorned with square concrete panels. Access to the bridge is provided by stairways, each featuring two sets of broken concrete balusters that originally supported two lines of round steel railings with spiral ends; these railings are now intact only at the northwest end.
