Description
2 Westfield Cottages is a pair of single-storey cottages built in 1859. They are symmetrical with five bays and gabled roofs. The cottages are constructed from squared and snecked grey sandstone rubble, featuring broached and droved dressings and chamfered reveals. A corbelled eaves course runs along the top.
The front elevation faces north and has two modern doors, each flanked by single windows at the gables. In the center, there is a bipartite window with a stone mullion. The rear of the cottages has two additional windows. An original lean-to coal shed is located at the eastern gable, while a more recent piended extension is added to the western gable, which is harled and has three windows along with a rear door.
The windows are timber sash and case, mostly with 12 panes, except for the bipartite window which has 8 panes and the western extension which has 4 panes. The roof is covered in graded grey slate and features no skews. Ashlar stacks are present at the gables, with dentilled projecting copes and single plain cans, and there is a red tile ridge.
