Description
The Sawmill at Tyninghame, built in 1828 by George Sked and Thomas Hannan, likely incorporates elements from an earlier structure. This single-storey mill has a gabled rectangular plan and has undergone significant alterations for residential use. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with stugged ashlar dressings.
The north elevation is symmetrical with five bays, featuring a central doorway flanked by high windows. The south elevation also has five windows similar to those on the north. Although the undershot water wheel and cogged dam gate machinery are still present, they are no longer operational.
The east gable includes a tall window at its center, while the west gable has an inserted four-part French window. The north and south casement windows have diamond pane glazing. The building features crowstepped gables with beak skewputts and is topped with grey slates, along with a ridge stack.
