Description
Standingstone is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that features an earlier 19th century wing and later single-storey service buildings located in a re-entrant angle. The structure is built of rubble with harl pointing, stained pink on the north elevation, and has red ashlar dressings on the original house, which are droved and painted at the ground level.
On the west elevation, the bays are grouped towards the centre, featuring a corniced and architraved doorway at the centre, which includes a decorative fanlight and a panelled door. There are corniced canted windows in the flanking bays, dating from the 19th century, while the original windows are present in each first-floor bay. The north return elevation has a window on each floor to the left, while the south return is blank, with a ground floor window and a lean-to conservatory added.
The east elevation includes a piend-roofed jamb to the right, along with a piend-roofed single-storey building set in the re-entrant angle, featuring irregular openings and rounded arrises to the back doorway in the two-storey wing. There is a further, lower outbuilding attached to the southeast. The north return elevation of the later two-storey jamb is two bays deep, with windows on each floor. The sash and case windows have 4-pane and 12-pane glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ashlar coped skews and corniced stacks, with decorative cans retained. The retaining walls feature semi-circular coping to the rubble walls and domed stone caps to the square, ashlar gatepiers.
