Description

Late 17th century. T-plan house of 2 storeys and attic with

additions of mid 20th century. Main block E-W with shallower

arm to S. Harled sandstone rubble, ashlar margins, raised

cills. Pantiled roof with slate eaves, red tiled turret,

porch and oriel roofs. Harled gable stacks; plain copings

with sundial on W skew of S gable.

Entrance in W re-entrant angle into stair turret, through

semi-circular porch addition. Flush panelled door and

fanlight strip. Turret window at eaves level. Bipartite

inserted S of porch with 1st floor window above. North Street

gable of 2 bays, with windows at each floor. 2 small gable

head lights. S and E gables blank with gable head windows.

E WING: segmentally curved 20th century oriel addition to S

with windows to left, both small-pane casement windows.

INTERIOR: earlier features mostly removed. Stair and plan

form 19th century with remains of newel stair leading to

attic. Blocked finely moulded door surround in N wall. Late

17th century chimney on S wall of E wing and remains of

bull-nosed fireplace lintel concealed behind stair. Some

remaining plaster cornice fragments.

Garden wall to S and curved at SW corner.
