Description

18 Links Road is a golf club house built in 1922 and 1929, with mid-20th century additions. It features an irregular plan and is designed in the Arts and Crafts style, incorporating 17th century Scots detailing. The building has a two-storey main entrance block with hipped and gabled roofs that slope steeply, while a single-storey service wing to the west has a flat parapet roof. Located at the edge of the village, it overlooks the seaside golf course and is set on raised terrace areas with steps leading down to the greens.

A prominent squared lookout with an ogee slated roof is positioned at the center, and the service wing has corner ball finials. The entrance features a segmental arched door with a dated keystone and a radial fanlight beneath a plain parapet. There is a round window on the east gable, and the flat-roofed section has eaves and parapet string courses. The exterior is constructed of rubble stonework with reclaimed rusticated ashlar quoins and smooth projecting window margins. A circa 1930s addition to the southeast corner includes steward's accommodation and a starters box on the west elevation, featuring metal windows.

The entrance door is a timber five-panelled design, with boarded doors leading to the service wing. The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with small slates and features swept eaves, while shouldered and corniced stone wallhead stacks have plain clay cans. Cast iron rainwater goods are also present.

Inside, the entrance hall is timber panelled and includes timber and glazed doors. The main lounge features a combed ceiling, arches over an inglenook and a box bay window, paired timber fire surrounds with marble inserts, and a carved honours board above. The attics are timber boarded, and there is a bell box. Some mid-19th century detailing can also be found in the interior.
