Description
The reservoir at Seggarsdean, built around 1860, is a prominent water-storage structure located on an artificial mound at the top of a hill. It has a rectangular plan and features a low-pitched gabled design, primarily consisting of a single storey. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, which are stugged and droved with raised margins.
The north and south gables are identical and serve as the main elevations of the structure. Each gable has a symmetrical layout, with a central door—metal on the north side and boarded timber on the south—flanked by narrow ventilation slits. The upper sections of the gables feature large louvred oculi.
The east and west side elevations each have an ashlar eaves course and three symmetrical window openings. Originally, these windows had metal shutters but are now infilled with brick. The west side also includes two slit vents interspersed among the window openings.
The roof is covered in grey graded Scotch slate and features ashlar skews with moulded skewputts and plain finials. A louvred, gabled timber vent emerges from the central section of the roof ridge, which is also slate-roofed.
