Description

West Bearford is a farmhouse dating from around 1800 for the north wing and the early 19th century for the main block. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a rough L-plan, constructed from variegated random rubble with sandstone dressings, featuring broached and droved finishes and painted margins. The exterior has been mostly defaced with modern "tuck" pointing.

The main block, which faces south, has a symmetrical and plain classical front elevation. It features a central doorway that is pilastered and corniced, with a four-panelled door and a fanlight that has border glazing. This doorway is flanked by two windows, with three foreshortened windows on the first floor. Both the east and west side elevations have one window on each floor towards the rear.

The north wing is irregular in shape and is dominated by a two-storey block with a gabled roof, which is likely the original structure. The west elevation has two windows on each floor. There is a single-storey outshot to the north, which includes two lean-tos facing the courtyard. The doors and windows in this area are mostly modern in style and relatively small.

Most of the fenestration consists of timber sash and case windows, with 12 panes on the main elevations. The roofs are primarily piended, with a single skewed gable on the north wing, all covered in grey graded Scotch slate. The building features four stacks made of rubble with ashlar dressings, projecting copes, and varied cans.
