Description
East Lodge, Colstoun House is a single-storey, T-plan lodge built after 1853. The main block has overhanging eaves to its piend roof, creating porches on three sides, supported by rustic timber columns. The lodge is constructed from squared and snecked cream sandstone with an ashlar base course and margins. The east elevation is three bays wide, featuring a central doorway flanked by broad windows. A timber mullioned canted window is set under the eaves to the south return, with a single window to the north. A gabled rear wing projects to the west, likely a sympathetic addition made around the same time. The roof is covered in grey slates with exposed rafters, and a central ashlar stack.
Corniced ashlar gatepiers, featuring chamfered arrises, friezes and ball finials, stand alongside rubble quadrant walls with ashlar coping, situated to the north of the lodge.
The lodge is located near a bridge that is listed separately, and the larger mansion of Colstoun is situated within Haddington Parish. Historic maps from 1853 show the lodge’s location in Haddingtonshire.
