Description

Waterboard House, located at 25 Macfarlane Road in Bearsden, is a late 19th-century single storey and attic villa designed in a T-plan with a single storey L-plan wing. The exterior features white harled walls and applied half-timbered gables, complemented by timber bargeboards and exposed rafter ends. The windows are predominantly tripartite, with timber mullions and transoms, arranged in an irregular pattern.

The principal elevation faces southwest and includes a central advanced porch topped with a catslide roof, featuring a two-leaf timber-boarded door flanked by sidelights and glazed returns, with a small dormer above. To the right, there is a tripartite window with a dormer above it, while the left side showcases a tripartite canted window with a cornice in a two-storey gable, along with another tripartite window above.

Additional features include tall wallhead stacks on the side elevations and an irregularly fenestrated single storey wing at the rear. The villa has a variety of casement windows and grey slate roofs, with a jerkin-headed service wing located at the southeast elevation. The rear also includes a pair of 20th-century skylights, and the wallhead stacks are topped with short red clay cans. The property has plastic and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The boundary walls are made of coped squared and snecked rubble, with pedestrian and vehicular gates positioned to the left and right of the house at the southeast elevation. The gatepiers are designed in a round-headed field gate style, contemporary with the house, and feature vertically boarded timber gates with a railed upper section.
