Description
Ardarroch, located at 3 Douglas Terrace in Dundee, is a large detached villa built in 1882 by William Alexander. The villa features two storeys and a basement, showcasing an Italianate tower. The front is made of ashlar stone with quoined angles, while the rear is constructed from snecked rubble. The elevation facing Douglas Terrace is symmetrical, with canted end bays at both the ground floor and basement, adorned with simple balustrades. The central section has a tripartite design, and the second floor includes architraved bipartite windows.
The villa features a set-back three-storey Italianate tower with a prominent doorpiece supported by heavy consoles. The top stage of the tower has triple arched lights and is decorated with a Romanesque corbel table. The roof is low and pyramidal, topped with a wrought-iron finial and a stack. The slate roofs are piended and platformed, featuring bracketed eaves and gable-end stacks. The windows are sash with a two-pane glazing pattern.
Surrounding the property are rubble-built boundary walls, which include square pyramidal-capped gatepiers.
