Description
353 Kingsway in Dundee is a semi-detached, two-storey house designed by W. Curtis Green around 1929. The house is set back from the road and features a harled exterior with swept eaves. It is notable for having three cartoons by Dudley Watkins displayed on the wall of an upstairs bedroom.
The front elevation has three bays, with a gabled bay on the left that extends to a catslide roof over a single-storey garage on the outer left. The central bay on the ground floor features a timber-panelled door with a cantilevered canopy above. The rear elevation also has three bays, with an advanced gabled bay on the right and a modern timber and plastic single-storey lean-to structure adjacent to it.
The glazing includes predominantly multi-pane timber casement windows on the ground floor and uPVC windows on the first floor. Inside, the first-floor southwest room has three paintings on the south-facing wall, applied to lining paper. The first painting, approximately 2 feet 6 inches by 2 feet, illustrates the nursery rhyme "The Old Woman that Lived in a Shoe." The second painting, about 1 foot 6 inches square, depicts "Little Jack Horner." The third painting, which has been wallpapered over, features a life-sized sunflower surrounded by elves and dragonflies.
