Pump House, Dry Dock, Victoria Dock, Dundee Harbour

The Dry Dock at Victoria Dock in Dundee Harbour was designed by David Cunningham, the Harbour Engineer, with contributions from Consulting Engineer Charles Ower, and was constructed between 1869 and 1875. This dry or graving dock measures 500 feet long at the base and 516 feet in full length, featuring a 50-foot 6-inch entrance. The dock is faced with ashlar stone and has stepped elevations on the north and south sides. Each elevation is symmetrically arranged with twin stairs flanking plinths, two on each side. The lower stage has a smooth incline at the center with stepped ends, and the floor is also made of ashlar, with a central row of keel blocks. An iron dock gate opens to Victoria Dock, accompanied by a chain-railed footbridge.

Adjacent to the dock is a single-storey pump house, which is a five-bay gabled building featuring a central arched doorway and small-paned windows. The end gables are adorned with skewputts and ball finials. The pump house has a slate roof that includes large skylights and two conical-capped ventilators on the east side, which provide ventilation for the basement pumps.
