Description

Early to earlier 19th century farmhouse, probably altered in mid

19th century, and mid 19th century steading. Farmhouse now disused; later farmhouse to N.

HOUSE: 2-storey, 3-bay house, probably raised from single storey in mid 19th century; single storey outbuilding adjoined to W. Rubble. 8-pane glazing in small sash and case windows to N elevation. Red sandstone coped skews. Banded rubble gablehead stacks to E and W. Small grey slates.

S ELEVATION: door at centre. Window at ground and 1st floors in bays to left and right. Outbuilding adjoined to left, with door and window.

N ELEVATION: window to both floors in outer bays. Modern wall adjoined to left of centre.

W ELEVATION: lower gabled outbuilding adjoined.

E ELEVATION: gabled and blank.

STEADING: L-plan steading; further range to E; stepped composition of buildings. Painted rubble. Red sandstone coped skews. Grey slates. Byre to W to L-plan range; barn to E, with threshing machine; formerly with water-wheel in re-entrant angle to SW; segmental-arched opening to E. Range to E, with cartshed to W and stable to E; cartshed with 2 cart bays to N and door to loft in W gablehead.
