Description
West Lodge at Hoddom Castle, likely designed by Wardrop and Anderson around 1886, is a single-storey and attic Scots baronial lodge with a T-plan layout and gatepiers. The building is constructed of stugged pink ashlar with polished dressings.
The lodge features mullioned and transomed windows, a canted window in the west gable, and a tall entrance turret with a conical roof located in the south re-entrant angle. There is a tall stack next to the turret with a projecting chimney breast, crow-stepped gables, shafted stacks, and a red tile roof adorned with fish-scale banding.
The gatepiers consist of six corniced square piers, with the two inner piers being taller and panelled, topped with raised ball finials. The entrance is complemented by decorative wrought-iron gates and railings.
