Description

26 Castle Street in Dumfries is a terraced building likely designed by Robert Burn, constructed between 1806 and 1819. The structure consists of three houses: No 30 has five bays with a central door, while Nos 26 and 28 each have three bays with the door on the left. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and feature cast-iron-railed basements. They are built from droved ashlar and include pilastered doorcases, round-arched doorways, and panelled doors with decorative fanlights. The small-paned sash windows are complemented by a string course at ground floor cill level, a band course between the floors, a cornice, a blocking course, straight skews, and end stacks, all topped with a slate roof. Nos 26 and 28 have first floor windows with attractive cast-iron balconies and cills that are lowered to the level of the band course, while No 30 features aproned first floor windows and a pedimented northern gable. The interiors also showcase some notable craftsmanship.
