Description
Kirtleton House and Outbuildings, dated 1759 on the pend keystone, were originally stables and are now used for agricultural purposes. The structure consists of two adjoining parallel two-storey ranges arranged in a double-pile layout, featuring twin-gabled north and south elevations. A high screen wall connects the southeast corner to a square-plan dovecot with a pyramidal roof located to the south. The buildings are constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings and have slated roofs.
The stables have a symmetrical five-bay west elevation, with segmental-arched openings that include pilastered jambs and keystones, and a central pend. The ground floor windows have been heightened, and coiled halter rings are present on the west wall. The rear (east) range has a roof that sweeps down to a single storey, with a tall central gabled opening that breaks through the eaves level.
The dovecot has been converted into a garage in the 20th century, featuring a large opening on the south wall and a hatch entry to the dovecot above. There is a blocked archway on the east wall and a weathervane finial. Inside, stone nesting boxes are present.
