Description

Ingleston is an 18th-century farmhouse with additions and alterations from the early 19th century. It is composed of three main blocks arranged in a compact, rectangular group. The main north elevation has three bays, and a narrow gabled wing to the rear creates an L-shaped plan, both dating back to the 18th century. A broader gabled wing, added in the early 19th century, fills in a re-entrant angle, featuring a full-height bow window to the east. The building is constructed of painted rubble throughout.

The north elevation has a string basecourse and raised, polished quoins and margins. A Roman Doric, pedimented porch has steps leading up to a doorway with a hexagonal-pane glazed fanlight. Tripartite sash windows (likely 19th-century alterations) are placed on either side of the door, with a single light at first floor level. A widened window is located above the porch, featuring concrete jambs. All windows are small-paned sashes. The slate roof has raised skews and skewputts, with tall, corniced end stacks. A single-storey addition to the right contains modern dormers which obscure much of the west elevation. The east wing incorporates a full-height, three-light bow window.

Inside, a triple-arch pendant screen fronts a dog-leg staircase. A drawing room, located on the first floor of the east block, contains good timber panelling, carved Corinthian pilasters to the mullions, and an elaborate fireplace.
