Description
Johnstonehall is a building dating from around 1800 that consists of cottages converted around 1970 into a single house. It features stacks between the ranges and has a modern tile roof. The building is single storey and has an H-plan layout, with symmetrical and nearly identical long elevations. Each elevation has a 3-bay center and shallow full-height flanking ranges with pedimented gables. The structure is rubble-built with ashlar dressings and is painted with contrasting margins.
Both long elevations include a wide central segmental-arched panel that originally enclosed a door; the western panel has been converted into a window, while the eastern door is now modern. The windows have raised lintels and modern glazing. The pedimented bays are accentuated with clasping pilaster strips, and the building features a base course, eaves course, and a corniced axial originally with a central door.
