Description
This is a 17th-century tombstone, marking the grave of R Furgusson, who died in 1684. According to the inscription, he was shot by Claverhouse for his adherence to the National and Solemn League. The tombstone features a decorative design including a scull and crossbones. Records indicate a connection to events involving the Covenanters, specifically the aftermath of the murder of a curate of Carsphairn Church in 1684. MacMichael and others fled to Auchencloy, where they were subsequently killed by Claverhouse. The tombstone is owned by Forestry Commission Scotland. It is located near the Auchencloy Monument, which is described in a separate listing.
