South Range, Meadow Bank Cottages, High Street, New Galloway

The Southern Bow Ended Block at Meadow Bank Cottages in High Street, New Galloway, dates from around 1820. It consists of two ranges of single-storey cottages built from painted rubble, featuring bow windows that create a gateway to Meadowbank House.

The northern range is the longer of the two, originally comprising four cottages that have now been combined into one with a garage. It has bays on the left side, with slate-roofed gabled dormers in the attic. The windows are all single light, sash and case, with a 12-pane glazing pattern. This range has slate roofs and coped axial stacks.

The southern range contains only one cottage, which has enlarged bipartite windows that are also sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. It features slate roofs and a coped end stack.

The bow ends of the cottages create a symmetrical entrance to Meadowbank House and are connected by low coped rubble walls that flank simple granite gatepiers.
