Description
The Walled Garden at Castlemilk, likely part of David Bryce's building programme from around 1867, is a large quadrangular garden surrounded by high walls made of red rubble and topped with ashlar coping. The walls feature stugged dressings and have entrances on each side, including a wide vehicle entrance on the west. On the north side, there is an exceptionally long 28-bay lean-to structure that may have housed potting sheds or previously served as cottages. The garden walls rise at the north end, and there are spear-head cast-iron railings and gates on the south side. A raised base at the north indicates the location of former glasshouses, and there is a centrally-placed well. The lean-to is flanked by pedestrian gates leading into the garden, with boarded doors and windows that mostly have 9-pane glazing. The structure features straight skews and is roofed with graded slates.
