Description

24-26 Lover's Walk in Dumfries is a pair of adjoining asymmetrical houses built in 1878 by Alan Burgess Crombie and James Crombie. They are arranged in an L-plan with a conservatory in the recessed northwest angle. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and are constructed from stugged snecked and squared red rubble, featuring ashlar dressings. Most windows are mullioned, and the houses have barge-boarded gables, ornamented end and axial stacks, and steep-pitched piended or gabled slated roofs.

The left house, numbered 24, has three bays (excluding a low left bay), with the right bay advanced and gabled. It features a porch in the re-entrant angle with a segmental-arched door. The ground floor openings all have parapets, with a canted window on the left and a projecting bay on the right. There is a timber-framed dormer in the left bay, and the low left bay is under a wide shallow-pitched gable.

The right house, numbered 26, also has three bays, with the right bay canted to full height and a dormer above. It includes an elaborate timber porch that is recessed on the right flank.
