Description
Kirkgunzeon Parish Church is a building of the 18th century, built in 1796 to the design of Robert Clark of Kirkgunzeon. It occupies the site of an earlier church. The church is constructed of painted rubble with dressed margins to the windows and long and short quoins. It comprises a four-bay nave, featuring round-arched windows with eight panes of glazing. Gabled porches are located at both the west and east gables. A birdcage bellcote, built from red sandstone and likely dating to the later 19th century, is situated on the west gable. The church is roofed with slate and has flat skews.
The interior was recast to a late 19th-century seating plan, incorporating a communion table and a plain oak font at the west end. An 18th-century pulpit remains, along with a bracketted plaster cornice.
The surrounding churchyard contains 18th and 19th-century tombstones, including a monument to the McWhire family (listed separately as LB9678).
The church is no longer in use as a place of worship, having ceased functioning around 2013. It is part of a group listing with the McWhire monument.
