Description
An early 19th century double-pile house with a basement and attic, accompanied by single-storey and basement wings on either side. The symmetrical three-bay front elevation features harled walls, raised polished rusticated quoins and margins. A perron stair, with simple cast-iron balusters, extends over the basement to the raised ground floor entrance, which is sheltered by a Roman Doric, pedimented porch and a door with a glazed fanlight. A small, semi-circular window with small panes is located below the perron stair. The house has sash windows with 12 panes to each light. A band course runs along the eaves, topped by a moulded cornice. The flanking wings, added around 1970, are sympathetic in their detail and proportions. The house has slated roofs and skews, with corniced and rusticated end stacks and two piended dormers.
The rear elevation is similarly detailed and includes some bipartite windows on the first floor. A sundial sits on a later pedestal on the basement level.
The interior displays restored or renewed woodwork and plasterwork, along with some relocated early 19th century fireplaces.
The property is part of a group, which also includes Lotus Stables Cottages, a walled garden, a garden cottage, a barn and kennels.
