Description
The New Cottage in Waterbeck is likely from the late 18th century. It consists of a row of single-storey cottages located on the south side of the road, arranged in four separate blocks that step down the slope. The cottages are built from rubble with ashlar margins and are all painted. The western block, which includes Miss Byers and Mrs Gordon, features a pair of three-bay cottages with central doors, while the other blocks have asymmetrical designs. There have been some alterations; for instance, the Old Grocery has an enlarged window, and the smithy to the east has been fitted with sliding doors. The cottages have boarded doors with rectangular fanlights and mostly small-paned sash windows. They feature end and axial stacks and are all roofed with graded slates.
