Description
9 Irving Street in Dumfries is a late Georgian terraced row of four houses, built around 1830. The two-storey buildings feature attics and basements with cast-iron railings. Number 15 has three bays with a central door, while the other houses have two bays with the door positioned to the right. The exterior is constructed of droved red ashlar with polished dressings, and Nos 11 and 15 are painted. Most houses have pilastered doorcases, and the door to No 15A includes a consoled hood. Sash windows are present throughout, although many have been replaced with plate glass. The design includes a base course, a band course between the floors, and a string course at the first-floor cill level. Additional features include a cornice, dormers on all houses except No 15, straight skews, end stacks, and a slate roof.
