Description

Several building phases, mainly late 18th - earlier 19th

century, nucleus a 16th century tower. Medium scale mansion, dramatically situated above steep cliff with high buttressed

and crenellated retaining wall. Mainly 3 storeys.

Rubble-built with red ashlar dressings. Tower at N with

vaulted basement, slappings, upper walling rebuilt and

altered circa 1870; building more than doubled in width by

late 18th/early 19th century range to S with full-height

E-facing bow to cliff, 3 regular bays to S, square linking

bay at E carried a storey higher. Extended to W circa 1840

with N-S orientated range with some mullioned windows, some

windows with lying-panes; crenellated square entrance tower

(steps to door) off-centre, and corbelled oriel). End and

axial stacks; blocked eaves; slate roofs, curved over bow.
