Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Craignair Street, Dalbeattie

Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church, built in 1814 with a tower added in 1854, is a hall church located on Craignair Street in Dalbeattie. The church features a tower to the southeast of the nave and an adjoining hall to the west. Its exterior is constructed of granite rubble walling, accented with red sandstone quoins and dressings, and includes a bull-faced granite tower.

The church has a four-bay nave with simple square-headed sash windows, featuring 24-pane glazing, and a smaller window with leaded glazing to the southeast. The three-stage granite tower has a door on the east side, with band courses separating the stages and pointed arch louvered openings at the third stage. At the angles of the tower, granite pinnacles flank a pediment detail at the parapet to the west. A porch connects the hall to the church, featuring a doorway with a pointed-arch traceried fanlight and a crowstepped gablet above with a small lancet. The roofs are covered with slate.

Inside, there is a gallery to the west accessed by a stair in the porch, and a well-crafted carved oak doorcase at the entrance to the nave, along with modern furniture. The hall is a single storey with a basement and has a piended roof. A modern bungalow adjoins the hall at the rear.

The churchyard is enclosed by a coped rubble wall that supports cast-iron railings, and there are two pairs of rusticated red sandstone coped gatepiers.
