Description
These are former stable buildings dating from the later 18th and mid-19th centuries, arranged around a partly cobbled rectangular courtyard. The buildings are constructed of whitewashed rubble with ashlar dressings. They are largely single-storey with lofts, and have varying roof levels.
The east range comprises a three-bay block, possibly heightened, with a tall, pyramidal roof topped with a weathervane finial, and small-paned windows. This section is built against a bank, featuring a wide, banked opening to the south. Originally, it had three segmental-arched wide doors opening onto the courtyard, though these bays now contain square-headed windows. Three windows are visible above. A lower wing with a north-facing cartshed returns to partly enclose the courtyard to the north.
The west range has all square-headed openings, including a single cart opening to the courtyard and loft doors with gabled dormerheads. All roofs are slate-covered. The courtyard is partly enclosed to the south by a wall topped with ashlar coping. Boreland House itself, along with a triple-gabled range of outbuildings to the north, are not included in this listing.
