Kirkview, Academy Road, Moffat

Archbald Moffatt House is a pair of two-storey, three-bay, gabled mid-terrace houses located on Academy Road in Moffat. Built in 1751 and later remodelled in the 19th century, Archbald Moffatt House features larger windows on the first floor compared to the ground floor, a moulded eaves course, and a roof covered with grey slates. The house is constructed from cherry-caulked whinstone rubble with raised red sandstone margins. The central entrance includes a timber panelled front door. Originally designed in an L shape with a stairwell in the re-entrant angle, a stairwell and bathroom were added in a rear extension during the 19th century. There is also a contemporary outbuilding at the rear. The windows are timber sash and case with a small pane glazing pattern and hand-blown glass. The property has coped chimney stacks on the ridge topped with small clay cans.

Kirkview, which was formerly a single-storey weaving shop connected to Archbald Moffatt House by an interconnecting door, has a rectangular plan measuring 27 feet by 14 feet. A first floor was added around 1851. The ground floor features painted cherry-caulked whinstone rubble with painted ashlar dressings, while the first floor is made of squared and coursed whinstone. The building has a central pilastered door architrave, and the windows are plate glass set in timber sash and case frames.
