Description
Dalgarnock Graveyard is an irregular quadrangular burial ground that primarily features stone monuments, many of which display fine classical ornamentation. The walls are built from red sandstone rubble and are topped with ashlar coping. On the east wall, there are square ashlar gatepiers that have cornices with shaped caps, along with spiked wrought-iron gates. The headstones date mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries and include designs with fluted pilasters, urns, swags, and pediments. A tall cross, erected in 1925 by D J Beattie & Son of Carlisle, serves as a memorial to 57 Nithsdale Covenanters.
