North Range, Stables, Gretna Hall Hotels, Gretna Green

Dated 1710, the North Range forms part of a complex of stables built around a cobbled quadrangular court. The stables consist of four ranges, though not all may be contemporary; the South range appears to be an addition. The ranges are generally one and two storeys high, with a consistent eaves level. They are built of rubble with ashlar dressings, and are whitewashed with painted margins, featuring slated roofs. A depressed-arched pend is present on the East range, with upper openings that are almost square. The West range has large openings and a round-headed window, topped with an individual piended roof. The South range has been altered to include a tearoom and shop at ground level, with a domestic flat named "Elmwood" situated above. The date is inscribed on the keystone of the pend, and a fire insurance badge remains visible above. The statutory address is Gretna Green, Gretna Hall Former Stables, including Elmwood.
