Description

An earlier 19th century granite bridge crosses the Black Water of Dee near Hensol House. The bridge features a single segmental arch with a 55-foot span. It is constructed with springers of bull-nosed and broached granite, and its voussoirs and soffit are of finely dressed granite. The spandrels, abutments, and parapets are built of random rubble, while the parapet coping is of dressed granite. The carriageway has a slight hump and shallow splay embrasures. Hensol House was designed by Robert Lugar in 1825, and the bridge was likely built around the same time, possibly to Lugar’s design.
