Description

The gate piers at East Avenue in Hatton date back to 1700 and consist of a pair of ornate, rectangular structures. They feature a banded checkerboard pattern made of smooth and rusticated ashlar blocks. The top courses are channelled, and there are moulded cornices with squared capitals that are intricately carved with stone heraldic crests, which are flanked by swagged decorations. The western faces of the piers have buttressed returns.
