Description
27 Primrose Bank Road is a two-storey, two-bay T-plan Arts and Crafts cottage, built around 1895, possibly designed by Hippolyte Blanc. The exterior features snecked and squared bull-faced red sandstone with polished dressings, a projecting base course, and bracketted overhanging eaves with decorative bargeboarding.
On the north elevation facing Primrose Bank, there is a jerkin-headed bay to the left, with a corniced tripartite window and a projecting cornice above on the ground floor, and a bipartite window in the gable above. The bargeboarding includes trefoil decoration. The right bay has bipartite windows on both the ground and first floors, with a swept roof above that breaks the eaves.
The east elevation has an entrance accessed through a lean-to slate-roofed wooden porch, with a small window located under the eaves above and a single window at ground floor to the left.
The south elevation, or rear, features a narrow bay to the left with single windows at both the ground and first floors, the latter breaking the eaves beneath a swept roof. The central bay is advanced, with a pitched roof to the west and south, and a gable to the east. It has single windows on the ground floor and breaking eaves above to the west, as well as later French doors to the south. There is a rear entrance in a single-storey pitch-roofed extension to the right.
The windows throughout are regularly spaced, predominantly featuring nine panes above and plate glass below, set in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and has a terracotta ridge. Asymmetrically placed corniced stone stacks with circular cans are also present.
The property includes a boundary wall with ashlar gatepiers that have chamfered corners and corniced pyramidal caps.
