5 Brown's Place, located in The Vennel, Edinburgh, is an early 19th-century, three-storey (four storeys on the outer left) tenement featuring eight bays in a plain classical style. The building is constructed of droved ashlar with polished dressings. It has a base course, a dividing band between the basement and ground floors as well as between the ground and first floors, a cill course at the first floor, and a cornice with a blocking course at the eaves. The ground floor windows and doors are set in rectangular recesses, and the building is regularly fenestrated with timber panelled doors and rectangular fanlights in the third bays from both the right and left.

The property also includes a boundary wall, railings, and a gate. The cast-iron railings feature fleur-de-lys finials and are mounted on ashlar-coped rubble boundary walls. The cast-iron gate, adorned with fleur-de-lys finials and pine cones on the gate-posts, complements the overall design. The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing, and the roof is covered with graded grey slates, featuring stone skews and corniced brick stacks that are rendered with circular cans.
