Swanston Water House, Swanston Road, Edinburgh

Swanston Water House, dated 1761, is a single-storey, single-bay rectangular building that was constructed around a water gauge. It is located to the southeast of Swanston Cottage on Swanston Road in Edinburgh. The exterior features diagonally droved sandstone ashlar, a moulded ashlar eaves cornice, and coped gables, topped with a stone flagged roof.

On the east gable end, there is a central entrance with a boarded timber door, above which is a lintel inscribed with 'EDINBURGH GEORGIUS LIND Praefaectus Anno MDCCLXI'. The other elevations are blind and the building adjoins a late 19th-century filter house to the west.

Inside, most of the floor area is taken up by a stone gauging tank, and the ceiling is barrel-vaulted.
