15 Hawthornbank Lane, Dean Village, Edinburgh

15 Hawthornbank Lane is a building located in Dean Village, Edinburgh, designed by Dunn and Findlay in 1895, with a later housing improvement scheme by Philip Cocker and Partners from 1978 to 1980. This half-timbered Tudor revival tenement building features 2 and 3 storeys and has a roughly 14-bay rectangular plan. The angled three-plane frontage shows that the eastern half of the block has 2 storeys while the western half has 3 storeys, with the ground level falling to the west.

The exterior is finished in painted render and timber, with a shallow stone base course and deep overhanging eaves. The upper storey is designed in English half-timbering on a corbel table that breaks the eaves. The building has larger 2-bay gables flanking twin gablets at the center of each block. The sandstone doorpieces are lugged and architraved, featuring shouldered arched transomed fanlights. Both the eastern and western elevations have gambrel roofs covered with red tiles.

The windows are predominantly 8-pane timber sash and case. The building also includes tall ribbed brick chimney stacks with a blocking course and cornice, topped with modern clay cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
