Description
1 Liberton Drive in Edinburgh is a two-storey bank building constructed around 1925, which includes accommodation for the manager above. It is located on a prominent corner and features a butterfly plan with a central entrance bay flanked by canted, piended wings. The exterior is finished in pink harling with reconstituted stone dressings, including a deep moulded base course, rusticated quoins, and detailed margins, cills, lintels, and eaves courses. The windows are sash and case with plate glass throughout.
On the north-east elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central door set in an advanced, rusticated full-height bay topped with a balustraded parapet. The entrance features a two-leaf panelled timber door within a moulded, consoled surround that includes a pediment and cornice, with a window above on the first floor. Each wing has a single window at ground level.
The east elevation faces Liberton Gardens and includes a two-storey wing with four windows on each floor, along with a shouldered wallhead stack on the return. There is also a single-storey piended addition to the south that has a bipartite window, as well as a recessed flat-roofed addition on the outer left that houses a cash machine.
The north elevation, facing Liberton Drive, features a stair window to the left, a bull's-eye window off-centre on the first floor, and a bipartite window to the right. There is a small single-storey piended addition adjoining to the west, located below a shouldered wallhead stack. The piended roofs are covered with grey slates and have swept eaves, while the harled stacks include cornice and frieze detailing.
The interior of the building has been significantly altered.
