Description

27, 29, 31, and 33 Broughton Street is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Burn in 1809. It is three stories high, with a basement and attic, and features six bays. The ground floor includes shops, with a pend entrance located to the left. The building is constructed from droved sandstone ashlar and includes decorative elements such as a band course, a cill band at the first floor, a band course between the first and second floors, projecting cills at the second floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course.

On the principal elevation, there are two 19th-century shop fronts on the right side of the ground floor, each featuring two-leaf panelled doors, flanking single windows, and a shared mutule cornice, with recessed steps leading to the inner doors. The pend entrance is slightly recessed in the outer left bay of the ground floor. To the left of center at the ground level, there is a timber door set in a round-arched recess, with ashlar steps that oversail the basement and are accompanied by railings. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with stone-mullioned tripartite windows at the first and second floors in the pend bay to the left. The attic features three box dormers.

The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, featuring four and twelve-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ridge stacks with terracotta cans. Iron railings are present at the entrance steps. The interior was not seen in 1998.
