Description

137 Constitution Street is a five-storey, seven-bay warehouse built in 1887 by James Bow Dunn. It features a single-storey outbuilding at the rear, which was formerly used for drying, cutting, and smoking, along with a covered court. The building is constructed from cream sandstone, with coursed and squared stugged rubble and droved ashlar dressings, while the rear is made of squared and snecked rubble. The front elevation has raised margins.

The northwest (front) elevation displays regular fenestration and includes a large segmental-arched corniced ashlar doorway located to the left of the center. This doorway features a roll-moulded arch with a carved keystone, deeply chamfered moulded reveals, and a tripartite timber door with round-arched bays, a two-leaf panelled door, panelled aprons, and a plate glass fanlight. Above this doorway, there is a window at the first floor with a shouldered architrave, scroll-flanked and pedimented. The wallhead above is raised in a gable with angled skew blocks and an apex stack.

The southeast (rear) elevation has five bays and regular windows. There is a bay to the right of center that breaks the eaves, featuring a small gable and hoist doors, which are now bricked-up. The single-storey outbuildings at the rear form a link with the tenements at Nos 12 and 13 Wellington Place. The ground floor of the front elevation has plate glass sash and case windows, while the other windows are four-pane fixed timber. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead flashings, along with one apex stack. The eaves gutter is moulded and supported by cast-iron brackets. The interior was not seen in 1993.
