Description

James A Williamson, City Superintendant of Works, 1909. Single storey, 9-bay symmerical rectangular-plan former market refreshment rooms and implement halls; rendered additions to rear. Pink bull-faced sandstone with cream sandstone dressings. Raised window surrounds, forming aprons; 2-leaf panelled doors; timber mullioned and transomed windows.

NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: bays 4-6 advanced with parapet and centre pediment (formerly Venetian window); aletr doorway set in round-arched panel at centre; later doorway in 4th bay; window in 6th bay. Doorways in recessed 3rd and 7th bays. Windows in remaining bays.

NE ELEVATIONS: parapet and pediment to 3 bays to outer left; 11-bay range adjoining to right; secondary corniced doorway in 6th bay; rendered addition to outer right.

SE ELEVATION: parapet and pediment to 3 bays to outer right; doorway in 3rd bay from right; 11-bay range adjoining to left; secondary corniced doorway in 6th bay; rendered addition to outer left.

Plate glass 2-pane windows with blocked top panels. Grey slate roof; louvered ogee-roofed ventilator, original rainwater goods.
