Description
2 Sylvan Place in Edinburgh is a two-storey building with a basement, built around 1825. It is part of a symmetrical four-bay terrace that connects with Nos 4 and 5 Sylvan Place. The exterior is made of grey stugged ashlar and features a base course, a dividing band, and blocking courses, along with recessed cills and window aprons.
On the principal elevation, there are steps leading up to the entrance located at the second and third bays. The entrance consists of deep-set panelled doors set in round-arched surrounds, with slightly recessed fanlights above corniced lintels. There are single windows above the entrance and in the flanking bays.
The windows at No 2 are plate glass sash and case, while No 3 features 21-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are shared gablehead stacks.
The interiors were not seen in 1990. The street is bordered by low coping topped with fleur-de-lys cast-iron railings at No 2, and both houses have mud scrapers.
