Description
4 Sylvan Place in Edinburgh is a building dating from around 1825. It is a two-storey structure with a basement and features a four-bay terrace that is continuous with Nos 2 and 3 Sylvan Place. The exterior is made of brownish stugged ashlar, with painted cills at No 5. The building includes a base course, a dividing band, and blocking courses, as well as recessed cills and window aprons.
On the west (principal) elevation, there are steps leading up to the entrances located at the second and third bays. These entrances have deep-set panelled doors and slightly recessed umbrella fanlights above corniced lintels. There are single windows above the entrances and in the remaining bays.
The windows at No 5 are four-pane sash and case, while No 4 features twelve-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and has mutual gablehead stacks.
The interiors were not seen in 1990. There is a low coped boundary wall to the street, which is missing its railings.
