Description

The Coalyard House, located at 64 St Leonard's Street in Edinburgh, is a building formerly dated to 1734, featuring the initials CW&M and the Clifton Crest. This two-storey structure has an attic and presents a four-window facade with a centrally placed shouldered doorpiece on the ground floor, although the panel above the door has been removed. The first floor has three windows, and there is a single-window gable at the wallhead, adorned with scroll skews. The exterior is finished in later stucco with margins and has a slated roof.

Inside, the building has been bricked up, but it still retains a panelled entrance hall and a well-appointed ground floor drawing room that includes a china niche and a secret door. The upper part of the staircase features turned mahogany balusters, and there is one panelled bedroom.
