Description

39 Corstorphine Road is a house built around 1840, featuring two stories and a symmetrical three-bay rectangular plan. There is a two-storey extension to the west at the rear and a single-storey gabled block to the east. The exterior is made of squared and snecked sandstone rubble, with droved quoins and long and short surrounds. The entrance has a consoled cornice above the doorpiece. The windows have plain margins, with block cills on the first floor.

On the north (main) elevation, there is a recessed door with a fanlight at the center of the ground floor, flanked by a window on each side. Each bay has a window on the first floor as well. There is a small lean-to porch towards the rear on the east side, with a window on the return.

The house features two-pane timber sash and case windows, although there are PVCu windows on the ground floor. The main block facing Corstorphine Road has a grey slate piended roof, as does the block at the west rear. The block at the east has a grey slate double-pitch roof. Each block has coped and shouldered wallhead stacks with moulded octagonal and cylindrical chimney cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.

The property is enclosed by a tall rubble boundary wall that is roughly coped, featuring a round-arched opening for the entrance gate.
