Description

This is a coach house, part of the Belmont House estate in Edinburgh, designed by William Henry Playfair and built in 1828. Later alterations have been made to the property.

The main block of the coach house is a single-story, three-bay structure. A large arched entrance, originally open and now containing a modern garage door flanked by an original archway, is centrally positioned on the north front, with three windows above. An L-shaped extension is located to the right, featuring a single window with a door on the north front, a timber door on the east return, and garage doors on the west return. A timber door is situated above the window.

The exterior is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The original roofline would have featured windows above the arched entrance, but these appear to have been replaced with a garage door.

The garden features a small pond with a white timber ornamental bridge to the north of the house. A stone base supports a sculpture of three children to the east, and garden terraces extend to the west. A curving driveway leads to the east, resulting in an unspoiled lawn bordered by box hedges to the south. A coped rubble wall is punctuated by ashlar piers with ball finials.
