Description

29-39 Lothian Street is a classical corner tenement building dating from around 1820, with a mid-20th century basement conversion. It stands four storeys high with a basement and features an arcaded ground floor. The facade has eight bays facing Lothian Street, arranged in two groups of four, and twelve bays at the ground floor, with six bays facing Brighton Street, arranged in two groups of three. The corner block is slightly advanced.

The building is constructed of droved ashlar, which is painted at the ground floor. It has a base course, a band course between the floors, a cill course at the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance features timber panelled doors with six-pane arched fanlights, with one door off centre to the left and a pair of doors to the right.

The ground floor has round arched windows with radial astragals, while the upper floors feature timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing. There are blind windows in the two outer right bays of Brighton Street. The roof is piended with grey slates, and there is a flat roof at the rear. The building has straight skews, corniced ridge stacks, and a shouldered wide wallhead stack with rendered finish and cylindrical clay cans. Additionally, there are railings edging the basement recess along Lothian Street.
